Jet Identification Guide

Replacing the jets in your hot tub can feel overwhelming. With so many sizes, shapes, and styles available, it's easy to get lost in the options—and even easier to end up with a jet that doesn’t fit your existing system.

This guide is designed to cut through the confusion and help you confidently identify the right replacement, saving you time, frustration, and unnecessary expense.

Understanding Hot Tub Jet Compatibility

While many hot tub jets may look similar and share common measurements, they are unfortunately not interchangeable. Each brand designs its jet bodies with unique fittings, meaning a 4" Rising Dragon jet will not fit into an LVJ jet body, and vice versa.

Additionally, jet bodies are typically designed for specific jet sizes. A 4" Rising Dragon jet requires a 4" Rising Dragon jet body, just as a 3" variant will need a corresponding 3" body—mixing sizes is not an option.

To further complicate matters, different jets use different locking mechanisms, either click-in or threaded (screw-in). Some manufacturers offer both styles, while others standardize on just one.

Anatomy of a Jet

Jets consist of two key components: the face and the diffuser. The face is the visible part inside the tub and often comes in a variety of styles, colors, and materials to match different aesthetics. The diffuser, on the other hand, is the functional component that connects to the jet body and directs air-infused water into the tub. The diffuser and face are usually different colours and are easy to distinguish. However, they can sometimes appear deceptively similar, so careful measurement is essential to ensure compatibility when replacing a jet.

Key Dimensions to Measure

To properly identify a replacement jet, there's a few key dimensions to consider:

  1. Total Length: The full length of the jet, measured from the tail of the diffuser to the front of the face.
  2. Face Diameter: While not essential for ensuring the jet fits into the body, the face diameter helps in finding a visually identical replacement. This measurement is often listed in inches for categorization purposes but should also be noted in millimeters for accuracy.
  3. Diffuser Length: The length of the diffuser component alone. In many designs, the diffuser extends fully to the back of the face, but in some cases, the faceplate extends backward toward the diffuser. Locate the seam where the two elements connect and measure only to that point.
  4. Diffuser Max Width: The widest point of the diffuser. This is often the threading on screw-in diffusers, though not always.
  5. Tail Width: The diameter of the diffuser’s tailpiece. This part is typically easy to identify, often featuring a cutout or groove.
