This seal ensures that the water doesn't leak out of the pump wet end, along the motor spindle. 

It comes in two parts: one mounts on the wet end and the other slots in behind the impeller

Waterway advises customers to replace the slinger at the same time as the pump seal.

For a better seal at the steel collar, it is recommended the addition of a silicone gasket or an O-ring is applied.
